Mayor Slay Won’t Create Panel for Confederate Memorial Decision

LNS,

The plans to create a panel to decide if a Confederate memorial should be moved out of the city’s Forest Park, has been cancelled by the St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.

On Tuesday, Slay wrote in his blog that he wants a foundation which will seek proposals from people who want to offer a public place for the memorial, if the officials decide to move it.

According to Slay, in April, he had asked three agencies to consider what to do with the 32-foot granite shaft that has been set up in the park for a century.

Since the Charleston church shooting, where nine black congregants were shot to death, the Confederate symbols all over the country have come under scrutiny. The suspect, Dylann Roof, had posed with the Confederate flag, in photos.
