Hot-Spot Policing Started in the North Side of the City

Those areas in St. Louis having recurring crime problems, will be given special attention by the police. The St. Louis Police department will be focusing on the three “hot spots” in this week.

The department started the hot-spot policing campaign from Monday morning. Mayor Francis Slay and the senior police officers spoke to the officers during the roll call at the North Patrol, 4014 Union Boulevard. Mayor Slay said, “Catching the bad guys and making the neighborhood safe. That’s what this is about. It is not that simple, but certainly that’s the bottom line.”

Extra officers will be patrolling in the Penrose, Walnut Park East and Walnut Park West neighborhoods.

Last time, the department had put additional officers for hot-spot policing was in January and February. They were patrolling for a week both the times in part of downtown and adjacent neighborhoods to the north, the West End neighborhood, and the Dutchtown and Gravois Park neighborhoods.

Police Chief Sam Doston said that hot-spot policing will be a major point of emphasis for the department, as now they are not focusing on the Ferguson-related activities much.

The one of the areas included in the hot-spot policing, saw a violent crime on Sunday night. A man was shot on late Sunday night at a gas station during a carjacking.
